How To Brew Coffee With The Aeropress - Barista Supplies
The AeroPress brings out the best in every bean. Its unique brewing method gives the richest coffee flavour, with less bitterness and acidity, and no grounds left in your cup. The AeroPress is one of the quickest and easiest coffee brewers available to make 1 to 2 cups at a time. There are 2 methods for brewing coffee with the AeroPress: The Traditional Method and The Inverted Method.

What you’ll need to brew coffee with the Aeropress

AeroPress Water Fresh Coffee Beans Kettle Coffee Grinder Mug or Range Server Timer

The Traditional Method

  1. Boil water and let it sit until it cools to 75°C - 80°C (about 1 minute). Lower temperature water makes a smoother brew.
  2. Grind 18 grams of fresh coffee beans on a medium setting (grinder setting will take practice to achieve a smooth & rich coffee)
  3. Assemble the AeroPress with a paper filter inside the cap and place on top of a mug (preheated) or range server. Drizzle the boiled water in to rinse filter and the chamber. Discard rinse water
  4. Place the funnel on top of the AeroPress and pour in the coffee then remove the funnel
  5. Pour boiled water over coffee until it is just over the number 4 on the AeroPress
  6. Use the paddle stirrer to stir the water and coffee together for about 10 seconds
  7. Insert the plunger. Firmly press down the plunger, stopping just as you start hear a hissing sound. Pressing slowly is the key to a rich brew and an easy push. If it feels too stiff, just press more gently.
  8. Enjoy! The AeroPress makes a concentrated cup of coffee and if desired you can split this amount between two cups and add a little more hot water.

The Inverted (Upside-Down) Method

  1. Assemble the AeroPress by putting plunger in the chamber and line up the rubber to number 4. Flip upside-down but don't put the cap or filter on.
  2. Boil water and let it sit until it cools to 75°C - 80°C (about 1 minute).
  3. Rinse paper filter
  4. Grind 18 grams of fresh coffee beans on a medium setting and pour into the chamber.
  5. Pour boiled water until the chamber is almost full.
  6. Place a paper filter in the cap and screw tightly onto the chamber and let it stand for 45 seconds (adjust in future brews if this comes out too strong or too weak).
  7. Quickly and carefully flip the full AeroPress over so the cap is down, and place on a sturdy mug (preheated) or range server.
  8. Firmly press down the plunger, stopping just as you start hear a hissing sound.
  9. Enjoy!
Try experimenting with different grind settings and timing to get that perfect smooth rich coffee flavour. You can also try a Stainless Steel brewing disk as an alternative to the paper filters. The AeroPress stainless steel brewing disk allows the AeroPress to extract more oils and a fuller bodied cup of coffee. They are also convenient when traveling, as they eliminate the need of paper filters. [porto_product_category title="Aeropress" view="grid" category="Aeropress"]
